Frequently Asked Questions - accessing library resources
What happened to CIAO?
Many people found it frustrating to have to look in the CIAO pages and the library pages to find the resources that they needed. So we have upgraded our web pages to provide access to all the resources available to you via the library sites. All the CIAO resources are still available, and on the same page you also have access to all the resources that your library purchases as well.
What library site should I use?
Usually, the library page to use will be the one at the hospital where you work, but if the hospital does not have its own library, or if your service does not belong to that hospital then you choose the site for the area health service that pays you. See our which library to use? frequently asked questions for more information.
Why can’t I access these resources?
- You are not a member of staff at the Western Australian Department of Health. Because of the licensing provisions for the resources we can only make these resources available to staff. Contractors and some staff without “he numbers” will not be able to access the resources because of the licensing agreements. Special provision has been made for medical students, students doing Health Department courses (i.e. Nurselink) and Visiting Medical Officers/Practitioners.
- You need to use a different library site. Select the library for the hospital where you work or the health service that pays you. If in doubt, see help sheet to find your library.
- Your physical location and the library you are using don’t match. If you are sure that you are using the correct library then try logging in with your he number and the password you use to login to your work computer. More information about passwords is shown below.
- We don’t have a record of your work location as a Health Department site. Contact your library to see if this is the case after you’ve tried the other solutions.
Can I use the resources from home?
Yes, usually you can login to the resources by entering your username and password. For most of the libraries this is your he number and the password that you use to login to your computer at work. Some libraries issue a username and password. Community Health, Dental Health and Psychiatric Services staff will need to use the logins provided to them at registration.
My username and password are not working – what’s wrong?
- You are not using the site for your library. Select the library for the hospital where you work or the health service that pays you. If in doubt, our which library to use? frequently asked questions.
- You are not including the “he” as part of your username. The correct format is hexxxxx, where the x’s are your number.
- You work for Community Health, Psychiatric Services, Dental Health Services, or you are a Visiting Medical officer / practitioner. In these cases, you will need to use the username and password that you received when you registered for library services.
- Your Caps Lock is on – passwords are case sensitive.
- Your record in the Active Directory/Global address list may be out of date. You can check your entry in the Active Directory via HOLII and update it if it is inaccurate. Or contact your IT department to update your details.
- If you haven’t logged in at work recently, your password may have lapsed. Contact your IT people to reinstate your account.
